On
Easter Sunday, ABC's Wide World of Sports presented the World Cup competition in
France. The gymnastic experts were Bart Conner (Nadia's husband) and Mary Lou
Retton. Both Bart and Mary Lou are gold medalists from the 1984 Olympic Games in Los
Angeles.
Now, you may ask, "How does this year's World Cup relate to Nadia?"
Well, Bart Conner, during Gina Gogean's (Romania) beam routine, makes an observation about Romanian gymnasts in general. "These Romanian gymnasts are well paid by their government... Many of them are entrepreneurs these days."
Talk about a setup! Mary Lou didn't miss a beat. "You know those Romanian women, don't you Bart?" Mr. Conner had dug himself a hole which Miss Retton was filling in. "You know a very special entrepreneur sleeping in the bed next to you!"
