for the Next Millennium

Postcards were sent out asking for predictions for the new millennium. Some respondents tried to cover the entire 1000 years, while others focused on the near future. The postcards are reproduced in the book, along with the celebrity's photo and a brief biography. When the responses were handwritten, or written in a language other than English, typed text accompanies the page. Some of the predictions are philosophical: "If the primordial Man has advanced from a mere beast to a civilized being with qualities of kindness, compassion, aesthetic appreciation of literature..." (Ramaswamy Venkataraman, former president of India)... Some predictions are more of a wish: "Less fanaticism. More compassion for children..." (Elie Wiesel, survivor of Auschwitz)... And some are humorous: "...interest rates will be higher and my breasts will be lower." (Joan Rivers, comedienne). There are three gymnasts represented in the sports category; Shannon Miller, Olga Korbut, and Nadia Comaneci.
Olga, who will be 44, revealed an inner frustration, while simultaneously wishing all a good future. "I would like to see my country, Belarus, independent from Communists, Russian low-life soldiers and the idiots. Peace and happiness for all nations." An exhibit of these predictions, plus many others not used in the book, is on display at the Empire State Building, in New York. The exhibit will also tour other cities in the future. You can learn more about the exhibit at 2001-3000.com. Predictions for the Next Millennium is worth having. The scope of individuals contained in the book is astounding. Also, it is one of the few projects which observes the true millennium, which begins in 2001, NOT 2000. You can purchase this hard cover book at Amazon.com, for $13.95 + shipping.
