Nadia Mercer Birthday: March 6, 1980 On the way to the hospital before I was born, my parents were discussing my proposed name, "Nicholas". They had expected all along that I would be a boy, but my Mother thought and asked, "What if it is a girl?" They hadn't thought of a girl's name because they were just certain that I would be a little Nicholas. I was born in 1980 and on the radio they were discussing Nadia Comaneci's great victory at the Moscow Olympics where she scored a perfect 10 on the balance beam. They decided that was the perfect name and when I ended up being a girl, I was given the name Nadia. North Carolina State University
